ASL 1 CERTIFICATION CLASS
This full-year class provides Queen's University students with free access to an ASL course. This class follows a syllabus and requires weekly attendance and submission of homework and tests. Upon successful completion of the entire course, students will receive their level 1 ASL certification. This class will develop existing ASL abilities throughout the year while establishing a greater understanding of Deaf and Hard of Hearing culture and history.
Classes are held in a non-speaking environment and are taught by a licensed and certified Deaf ASL instructor. Registration for this class requires a $60 fee.
ASL CASUAL CLASS
WORKSHOPS
This class runs per semester and is taught by a licensed, Deaf instructor. Classes will be held in a non-speaking environment. Weekly attendance is not mandatory, but it is encouraged! The focus of this session is to provide a fun and relaxed space to learn ASL alongside your Queen's University classmates. Through this, we hope to establish greater interest and appreciation for ASL.
There is no fee to register for this class, nor a syllabus, homework, or tests.
QASL collaborates with other groups and clubs at Queen's or other universities to promote the use of ASL in creating a more accessible campus. Workshops will be designed by QASL and catered to the theme and goals of its partner club, business, or affiliated group.

ABOUT QASL
Queens American Sign Language (QASL) advocates for accessibility on Queen's campus and offers students a free and engaging environment to learn American Sign Language (ASL). Students with any level of background knowledge of ASL are encouraged to register and attend our classes, where they will be taught by a licensed Deaf instructor. We also host workshops with other clubs where we will teach ASL, Deaf and Hard of Hearing history and culture and cater to the theme and goals of our partner organization. Through our weekly lessons and workshops we aim to bridge the gap between the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and hearing communities at Queen’s University and beyond. We encourage all students to register for our free classes in September!
QASL was founded in 2018 by Sarah Corbeil after she realized the lack of ASL resources on campus. Prior to QASL, there was no ASL related club or course at Queen's. Upon the creation of the club, the QASL team discovered a significant amount of interest within the Queen's student body, which has allowed QASL to work extensively with Queen's students to create a more inclusive and accessible environment for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting!
